April 2021 Update
On behalf of the Post 44 leadership team, I am pleased to share with you the highlights of several Post 44 events held in March and April.
On Saturday, March 13th, LifeVantage held a training seminar and team-building exercise in Patriot Hall. The lively event helped showcase the Post’s ability to handle complex events for outside groups requiring technical support and a dynamic venue.
On Wednesday, March 17th, two Post 44 Honor Guard members supported an event in honor of Arizona Department of Veterans Service Director, Colonel Wanda Wright, at the Rio Verde Republican Women’s Club.
On Saturday, March 20th, the Military Officers Association held its third monthly luncheon at Post 44. The guest speaker at this luncheon was Lenore Portante from Honor Health, speaking about the HonorHealth Military Partnership Program.
On Thursday, March 25th, the Post 44 monthly general membership meeting included a vote to formally endorse Post 44 member Matthew Shuman as a candidate for Legion National Commander. The vote carried unanimously. Other highlights from that evening included new Post 44 member Kathy Lowrey Gallowitz speaking about her veteran champion organization, Vanguard Veteran.
On Wednesday, March 31st, Dignity Memorial held an informational seminar in Patriot Hall with meals provided by our food service provider, United Catering.
More recently, on Thursday, April 8th, in commemoration of Vietnam War Veterans Day held on March 29th, Unit 44 Auxiliary hosted an event to honor our Vietnam Veterans. At this event, Post 44 and Representative David Schweikert honored the service and sacrifice of Post 44 Vietnam Veterans who reside in the 6th Congressional District. The honorees were Post 44 members Robert Boyd, Billy Martin, John Orendorff, and Rodger Wells, who accepted the recognition on behalf of all Vietnam Veterans in Post 44. A big thank you to all who attended and a heartfelt salute to all our Vietnam veterans!
Ed Kelety, Senior Vice Commander
Greetings to all – here’s a quick update on some of the happenings at Post 44 recently:
The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) began holding its monthly luncheons at Post 44 in January of this year in Patriot Hall. MOAA typically features a guest speaker for its members. The most recent guest speaker was retired USAF Lt Col Kathy Lowray Gallowitz of Vanguard Veteran. You can find more on Kathy’s efforts to equip civilians to become Veteran Champions at www.vanguardveteran.com
Also in February, Post 44 hosted a birthday party in Patriot Hall. The party was a success, thanks to support by our Post 44 volunteers.
On March 3rd, volunteers from Post 44 provided excess equipment to former Post 44 Commander and Arizona Department National Executive Committeeman Andy Jaime to furnish Post 16 in Bisbee. Volunteers loaded half a moving truck with excess items for the benefit of our Legion comrades in southern Arizona. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!
Patriot Hall continues to be a sought-after venue for classes, luncheons and other events. We’ll provide updates on March events in the future.
Many thanks for JVC Eddie Bogonovics and Club Manager Barney Etzel, our Trustees Keith Thomas and Ron Ihsen, as well as our Club and kitchen partners including June Moyer and her team of volunteers.
Please remember that special events at the Post are run almost exclusively by volunteers. Special events bring in revenue for the Post which keep the Post going for our members. Our volunteers are enthusiastic and excellent – but we need more volunteers to keep up with the increasing demand for Patriot Hall. That means we need YOU. If you are able to help us, please contact our office to fill out a volunteer availability sheet. Help showcase our Post by volunteering your talents! I thank you for your efforts and your service!
